Chief Thunderbird
Real name: Jean Baptiste Paul
From B.C. The master of the "Saanich Snap" -- a leglock submission -- from the 1930s and 1940s. Wrestled across North America. Known for wearing a full headdress into the ring. Challenged Orville Brown in Calgary for a version of the world title in December 1947.

"The followers of Chief Thunderbird have good reason for pointing with pride at the Saanich Brave as the best ever of Indian athletes. In 1932, he prevailed to embark on a professional wrestling career. Never before had grappling fans seen such a showman; never before have they seen so startling a performer. Now, five years after his first professional match, Chief Thunderbird has finally come East for mat competition. The copper colored grappler enters the ring in full Indian regalia, feather head-dress and hand-made blanket. He stands exactly 6 feet tall and tips the beams at 220 pounds."
(From THE RING, November 1937)
"He tips the beams at 239 pounds and is noted for his great strength. His knowledge of wrestling is limited, but the holds he has mastered carry him a long way."
