Omer Marchessault / La Merveille Masque

Successful wrestler in Montreal in the 1940s and 50s, who then became a referee for several Montreal promotions into the 1970s. Worked some Montreal WWF shows in the 1980s as timekeeper.

Never travelled much because he also had a 30-year career with the Montreal fire department. According to Marchessault, it was because of his job with the fire department that he wore a mask as a wrestler.

Marchesseault was the referee in two of the most famous matches in Montreal in the 1970s: the 1972 battle of the giants between Giant Jean Ferre (Andre the Giant) and Don Leo Jonathan, and the 1973 card at Jarry Park headlined by Mad Dog Vachon vs. Killer Kowalski.

He died in December 1996.
