Rene Goulet / Sgt. Jacques Goulet

Real name: Robert Bedard

A Quebec City native always billed as being from France. Began wrestling in 1956, and continued to perform into the late 80s -- ending his career in the WWF. Worked for the WWF office from 1986 to 1997 and was often seen as one of the suit brigade breaking up brawls.

Also known as Sgt. Jacques Goulet from his days in a tag team called The Legionnaires -- allegedly of the French Foreign Legion.

Goulet once defeated Jack Brisco and Terry Funk in a tornado (3-way) match in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Won the 1981 New Japan Madison Square Garden tag tournament with partner Andre the Giant, defeating the legendary Japanese team of Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami in the final.

WWWF tag champion with the legendary Karl Gotch, defeating Luke Graham and Tarzan Tyler and losing to King Curtis and Baron Mikel Scicluna. In addition to the titles listed below, Goulet and Chris Markoff were billed as European tag champions in Georgia in 1979.

  • 3-time NWA Southern champion (Florida), 1970, 71, 81
  • WWWF World tag champion, with Karl Gotch, 1971-72
  • WWA World tag champion (Indianapolis), as The Legionnaires, 1974-75
  • NWA Georgia tag champion, with Ole Anderson, 1977
