No matter how strong your qualifications are, there will be some areas -- maybe several-where your background, skills, knowledge, abilities, or traits fall short of what the employer has in mind for their ideal candidate.
Even at the interview stage, the chances still are good that the employer will at some point decide that you're not the person they want to hire.
Any perceived shortcoming or "red flag" has the potential to be a knockout item that removes you from further consideration. This is particularly true if you're being interviewed by someone from Human Resources working from a checklist or job analysis.
It's usually not very difficult to guess what some of the employer's concerns about hiring you are going to be. As part of your preparation, you must try to anticipate these concerns so that you can be ready to address them in the interview.
Some common concerns
What might make alarms go off in the interviewer's mind as they assess your experience and qualifications? Common concerns include:
Lack of industry experience.
Little or no experience doing similar work elsewhere.
No experience with the specific hardware or software used in the position.
Lack of certain technical skills they feel are required for success.
No management experience.
