If you want to get a message to the high-tech community in Waterloo, you don't have many options. You could put an ad in The Record, but that will be very expensive, especially since you'll have to run your ad several times to hit your target audience.
You could sponsor high-tech business events in town, which will get your logo in front of a couple of hundred people -- of which at least half are probably other service providers.
The Chamber of Commerce says their newsletter goes to 2,800 people (this was in 2004, so it's probably a bit more now), some of whom are with tech companies. They charge $559 a month for a quarter-page ad -- and your message will be one of about 20 advertisements in each newsletter.
But for only $200 a month, an ad in the Waterloo Tech Digest will take your message to over 3,900 subscribers and thousands more on the Web site every month.
But it's not just the number of people you can reach -- it's who they are. I can't tell you who subscribes, but it would be quicker to tell you who doesn't get the digest. Ask people you know in the high-tech business community here if they read the digest, and I think you'll quickly see this for yourself.
What you get:
- A 70-80 word text advertisement near the top of the digest (either at the very top or between the first and second stories).
- Your logo and link to your Web site on the main digest Web page at www.garywill.com/digest
Cost is $1,200 for six months. To avoid clutter, I limit the number of ads at the top of the digest to no more than five per issue.
There are additional spots available within the body of the issues on a shorter-term: $300 for one month or $500 for two. If you are promoting an event, you can place a one-time notice in the digest before the event for $250. In every case, you get the same 70-80 word length and the same link from the digest Web page.
